Keeping Pest Birds Off Channel Letters with Electric Track

Let's say you just invested in some pretty channel letters for your business. You got the nice 3-dimensional graphic sign elements fabricated out of no-rust aluminum. The letters were sealed with weather-resistant paint, fitted with LED modules and covered with a nice translucent plastic face. You witched them on and everything looked like Christmas on the 4th of July. Until the pest birds came.

On the other hand, you might have spent some real money and installed some reverse lit channel letters. They were made of no-rust aluminum with handsome lighting that flooded the back wall and made those halo letters stand out like the Mona Lisa at the Louvre.ย  You switched these on and your sign looked like New Year's in New York.ย  Until the pest birds came.

Problem: Pest Birds love to nest and roost in your channel letters. And when they do, it doesn't take long for them to deface and eventually destroy plastic, aluminum or a composite of these materials. Over time, the high levels of acid in bird droppings can eat into and corrode almost any material. The translucent face of your channel letters can quickly be covered with unsightly droppings, reducing the light output and eventually destroying the face of the letter. Bird nests built behind reverse lit channel letters can block the light that "splashed" onto the wall, rendering the letter nearly invisible at night.

But whether you have regular channel letters or reverse lit designs, bird nests and droppings can create a fire hazard that can eventually ignite the wiring and plastic in and around these letters. (Plastic signs can be extremely flammable.)ย  And there goes your investment in signage.ย  If you're insured, say hello to higher insurance rates.

Solution: There are a number of ways to prevent birds from landing on signs. One preferred method for channel letter signage is Electric Flat Track. This low-profile, electrical track system produces a mild electrical shock when birds land on its surface.ย  Flat Track is ideal for channel signs because it is virtually invisible when properly installed. If you're concerned about aesthetics, Flat Track is just 1/4-inch at its highest point, and it comes in four colors: grey, stone, black and terracotta--so it blends in perfectly with your letters. The track is made from a flexible U.V.-protected PVC base that easily conforms to the curved or straight surfaces of your channel letters (you can bend these tracks a full 360 degrees without damaging them).ย

If you have a problem (or expect to have a problem) with pigeons, sparrows, gulls, starlings or crows, you should invest in this type of bird deterrent to save your channel letters. For added versatility, Electric Flat Tracks are powered by an A.C. charger or solar charger. Another advantage of these tracks is that they will not harm birds, but will condition them to stay away from the area.ย  The best electric tracks feature a patented "anti-arcing" design for added safety. One manufacturer uses a tin-plated copper knitted wire mesh in a continuous "tube-in-tube" stocking design. This ensures greater conductivity, strength and reliability. The copper mesh is resistant to corrosion and highly resistant to alkalis and acidic environments.

Install the Electric Flat Track now, before the pest birds arrive.
