A Bald Eagles Successful First

The oldest of the 2 West End bald eagle chicks, Miracle, takes her first flight as her sister, Surprise, watches. While she's gone, Surprise looks like she might join her several times. Miracle returns 14 minutes later as if nothing happened. NOTE: About an hour later, a small plane came close enough to the nest that it scared both chicks into flying off the nest....a 'forced fledge' for the second chick. IWS biologist, Dr. Sharpe, drives the 2-3 hour drive over bumpy, dirt roads, and hikes to check on their condition. 6 hours after the incident, the news comes that both chicks are okay. These eaglets are part of the ongoing restoration project by IWS. You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the nests to view on Catalina Island and Santa Cruz Island or go to z7.invisionfree.com Video Rating: 5 / 5
